Mauro was born and raised in Merida, and he personifies Yucatecan graciousness and hospitality. He willingly shares everything he knows in order to help his guests get the most out of their time in Merida. Raul, your other gracious host, speaks perfect English and is well-traveled. He too works hard to be sure that the guests at Las Arecas have whatever they need to be comfortable and happy.

From the moment you walk in out of the Yucatan sunshine, you know you are getting a unique glimpse of a typical Yucatecan home. The shiny tile "mosaico" floors, the inner courtyard, the brightly painted walls and doors are all typically Yucatecan. The garden is planted with tropical splendour and provides the focus for the rest of the house.

When you get to Merida, make your way to our

and settle you in your room. You will immediately
feel right at home. Each of the guest rooms
at Las Arecas, A Small Hotel is unique. Some have air conditioners. All have private bathrooms and ceiling fans. The garden and common rooms are open to all guests and provide lovely corners for reading, sipping an ice tea or "horchata" or just resting in Merida
after a long day at Chichen Itza or Uxmal.
